Raoul Wallenberg

Raoul Wallenberg was born in 1912.

In 1944 Raoul was sent to Budapest, Hungary, as a diplomat with the specific mission to save as many as possible of the last remaining 750,000 European Jews.

Raoul Wallenberg saved tens of thousands, maybe 100,000 Jews from the concentration camps. Illegaly, he issued Swedish protection passes stating that the bearer was a Swedish citizen under the protection of the Swedish Government. He organized so called “Swedish houses” where the Jews could stay.

When the red army entered Budapest in January 1945 he planned to expand his rescue and relief work for the surviving Jews with the assistance of the Soviet Union.

He went to a meeting with Soviet general to discuss the project. He never returned.

Raoul Wallenberg was a man who understood and fought for the value of each human being. He showed the Jews that they were not deserted by the rest of the world.
